icare recruits EML head as chief exec
NSW state insurer icare has appointed Geniere Aplin, most recently the head of EML Solutions, as its CEO.
The move follows the resignation last year of Richard Harding.
“The board is pleased to welcome Geniere to the team and was impressed by her wealth of experience leading large teams in complex ecosystems,” chair John Robertson said today.
“Her extensive knowledge of workers’ compensation in NSW, and broader insurance experience, will be an asset to icare as it continues to implement change that leads to better community outcomes.”
Ms Aplin will take the role from March 31.
Mr Harding oversaw the introduction of a new claims model and wider changes following a tumultuous period under previous leadership that included NSW parliamentary inquiry scrutiny of icare’s financial and operational performance.
Mr Robertson says icare sought a new leader who could build on the recent reform program, with sound governance, transparency and accountability practices in place to support the organisation’s strategy.
“Geniere’s mandate is to continue driving icare’s transformation to improve outcomes for injured workers and all scheme participants, while building long-term financial sustainability,” he said.
“Her demonstrated track record of success across her past roles means she is perfectly placed to lead the organisation to deliver on these outcomes.”
Ms Aplin joined EML as group executive of personal injury in 2017 before becoming CEO. She has also held senior leadership and board roles across the public, mutual and private sectors.
