Doyle moves up at Dual, Coates comes home

Former Zurich Australia CEO Shane Doyle has been appointed CEO of London-based Dual International.

He replaces Damien Coates, who is returning to Australia full-time to become Deputy CEO as well as CEO of Dual’s Asia-Pacific operations.

David Howden, the CEO of Dual parent company Hyperion Insurance Group, said tonight that Mr Coates originally intended to move to London when he became CEO two years ago.

“When personal circumstances prevented that from happening, he agreed to take on the role for a limited period during which he would commute between London and Sydney, and… would deliver some key strategic changes.”

Mr Howden says Mr Coates has now completed a comprehensive restructuring of Dual International.

Mr Doyle joined the group in July last year after resigning as CEO of Zurich Australia. In March he took up additional roles as Group Chief Underwriting Officer and CEO of Dual UK.

Mr Coates said tonight that he and Mr Howden recruited Mr Doyle with the intention that he would move into the CEO’s role once the restructuring was complete.

“Due to events in Australia I’ve decided to bring this role-swap forward from a planned end-of year timing.”

Dual Australia also announced tonight that MD Peter Bailey has decided to leave the company.
