Brisbane to host insurance law masterclass

The fourth annual Sir Ninian Stephen Insurance Law Masterclass will take place in Brisbane on May 20.

Australian and overseas experts will cover a range of topics including insurance contract disclosure, bad faith, the principle of indemnity in property cover and indemnity clauses and insurance clauses.

They will also discuss the meaning of “accident/accidental” in an insurance policy and the importance of policy indemnity drafting.

Speakers include Roger Traves QC, Clayton Utz partners Fred Hawke and Mark Waller, University of Canterbury lecturer Henry Holderness, University of Southampton professor of law James Davey and University of WA Law School Deputy Dean Brenda McGivern.

The Australian Insurance Law Association will host the event with support from the University of Canterbury, University of Queensland, University of Southampton and University of WA.

Sir Ninian, 92, is a former governor-general, judge and barrister in the insurance area.

Past masterclasses have attracted about 120 attendees, mostly insurance solicitors, insurance claims officers, brokers and in-house lawyers.
