Kaikoura claims almost complete

New Zealand’s Earthquake Commission (EQC) says only a small number of the 38,758 residential claims from the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake remain unsettled.

It says the insurer-managed portfolio is 99% assessed and 98% settled, while the EQC-managed portfolio is 98% assessed and 97% settled.

“We are very happy to report that we are now under 100 claims remaining to be closed,” the commission said.

So far it has paid $NZ515 million ($472 million) to insurers that manage EQC customers on its behalf, and $NZ38.9 million ($35.7 million) to customers managed by the commission.
