Aon data to help developers

Impact Forecasting, Aon’s catastrophe modelling division, has shared its extensive earthquake data with the World Bank for its new online tool that helps property developers create resilient projects.

ThinkHazard! informs developers on the likelihood of eight natural hazards in any given location and how to mitigate risks – from evacuation planning to improving building codes.

The Impact Forecasting data comes from its catastrophe models, and shows the probability of earthquakes across 31 countries, including six “priority countries”, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kenya, Morocco, Serbia, Turkey and Uganda.

Global Head of Impact Forecasting Adam Podlaha says the risk services giant is proud to be part of the project.

“The insurance industry has traditionally focused on how we effectively react and pay claims following a disaster – using insights from catastrophe models to help prepare,” said Mr Podlaha.

“Now, we have the opportunity with the World Bank to help risk reduction specialists to plan ahead.

“This underpins Aon’s commitment for sharing data and analytics to empower communities in both preparing for catastrophes and helping to rebuild lives and livelihoods in the aftermath.”
