Zurich begins CEO search after Nanra departs

Zurich is seeking a replacement for General Insurance CEO Raj Nanra after announcing his departure.

As reported in a Breaking News bulletin last week, Mr Nanra will leave on Friday.

Chris Waterman, the Singapore-based Head of Commercial Insurance Asia-Pacific, will oversee the business in addition to his other responsibilities until a replacement is found.

A Zurich spokesman told insuranceNEWS.com.au there are no plans to change the role or restructure the general insurance side of the business. There is no schedule in place, and Zurich will take its time to find the right person.

The insurer says it was Mr Nanra’s decision to leave.

He joined Zurich in June 2014 as regional audit director Hong Kong. He then moved to the Australian team, holding several roles including CFO.

He was promoted to CEO General Insurance early in 2016, having acted in the role after the departure of Daniel Fogarty in September 2015.

Asia-Pacific CEO Jack Howell says Zurich has the right team in place to build on Mr Nanra’s achievements.

“Our goal is to… accelerate the positive changes we’ve seen in our Australian general insurance business in recent years,” he said.

“This means delivering on our recent announcement with [underwriting agency start-up] Blue Zebra, building on our positive momentum in claims, continuing to enhance the communication and support we provide to our broker partners, strengthening our processes and relevance in the SME space and differentiating ourselves in the market through our propositions.”
