NZ travel cover comparator goes live

A new travel insurance comparison website has been launched in New Zealand.

Travelinsurance.co.nz says customers can refine results based on needs and price, and claims to compare policies from “many of New Zealand’s top insurance companies”.

But it accepts that “as much as we would love to compare quotes from all insurers in the market”, the site is limited to the following brands: 1Cover, American Express, Columbus Direct, Downunder, NZ Travel Insurance, Worldcare and Webjet.

All but one of these brands are underwritten by Allianz.

Travelinsurance.co.nz is owned and operated by CoverDirect NZ, which has directors in common with Australian travel insurer 1Cover, and the quoting engine is powered by Compareinsurance.com.au.

CoverDirect NZ already operates a travel insurance comparison site in New Zealand, Comparetravelinsurance.co.nz, which features many of the same brands.

Travelinsurance.co.nz is aimed at an older demographic, the company says.

CoverDirect NZ does not hold a financial services licence, so information provided should not be considered advice.

“For too long some New Zealand insurers have resisted participating in this valuable new channel to market, which we feel strengthens consumer choice… and promotes transparency,” 1Cover NZ GM Jonny Knox said.
