Major law firms announce merger

McCabes Lawyers and Curwoods Lawyers have agreed to merge by July 1, creating one of the largest and most diverse insurance practices in the country.

The new entity, known as McCabe Curwood, will bring together McCabes’ corporate and commercial offering and specialist insurance lines, with Curwoods’ broad insurance practice.

McCabes Managing Principal Andrew Lacey will be Managing Partner of the new firm. Scott Kennedy, Managing Partner of Curwoods, will be Head of Insurance.

“Our businesses are complementary,” Mr Lacey said. “We are ambitious, and we want to build a strong, large-scale legal business with an expanded interstate presence.”

Mr Kennedy said: “The combined entity will also provide a strong platform for continuing growth across the various commercial practice areas.”
