Insight Chairman honoured for community service

Insight Australia Group Chairman and Grampians Insurance Brokers Director David Hosking has been chosen as the inaugural winner of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) community service award for Victoria.

Mr Hosking was presented with the award at ANZIIF’s Victorian regional conference in Ballarat last week.

Among his many charitable and community activities, Mr Hosking is a member of the East Grampians Health Service (EGHS) board and is Chairman of the EGHS Building for the Future Foundation. The foundation manages funds of $1.5 million.

Grampians Insurance Brokers, based in Ararat in southwestern Victoria, sponsors various community events as well as the Ararat Football Club. Mr Hosking is also the club’s coach and a former player.

He has also been instrumental in the development of young adult athletes through the Ararat Football-Netball Club. In his coaching role he helped develop a culture of community service activities at the club. The club has worked to raise awareness of issues including cancer and domestic violence.

Speaking to insuranceNEWS.com.au, Mr Hosking says he feels “flattered” by the award. “I live in a small country town; it’s just what you do.

“I’m honestly thrilled to win this award, but what I do is always as part of a team. There’s a whole range of people involved in all these activities.”

Mr Hosking says he also encourages his staff to contribute to the local community.

ANZIIF CEO Prue Willsford says Mr Hosking is “a humble but dedicated insurance professional who recognises the importance of giving back to the community professionally and through volunteer work”.
