Former Pen underwriters open new agency

Four former Pen Underwriting employees have banded together to start their own agency, which will begin commercial operations next month.

About Underwriting will be based in Melbourne’s Collins Street and have a second office in Brisbane.

It will provide tailored packaged liability policies for professionals and also standalone products for the broader market.

“This is what we do and we have been doing it for a very long time,” MD and Portfolio Manager Liz Peach told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Ms Peach was underwriting manager professional risks at Pen, and prior to that SRS. She left Pen in October 2015, serving a six-month gardening leave period before setting up the new agency.

“Starting our own agency was no longer a case of ‘why’ but rather a case of ’why not’. My experience is in leading cohesive and successful teams and managing binders.”

About Underwriting’s other founding members are Operations Manager Danielle Ghazi and senior underwriters multiple lines Jodie Banks and Melanie Baird.

Its product offerings include professional indemnity, public liability, management liability, cyber liability, statutory liability and property.

Ms Peach says About “has what it takes to succeed” despite the tough competition in the market.

“It’s a very competitive market, but we are not simply another underwriting agency,” she said.

“We will trade on our historical record of providing comprehensive policy coverage, together with exceptional service, and always with the utmost integrity.

“What will set us apart from other agencies is how we package our products and deliver to the market.”
